David is an architect and team leader at Kiku Obata & Company, a multi-disciplinary design practice specializing in strategic thinking and holistic design solutions. He has over 20 years of experience in various project types, including retail and educational institution design, streetscape and neighborhood plans, branding, and wayfinding. His recent projects include development of retail storefront and signage design guidelines for Downtown Iowa City, IA; retail redevelopment strategy and design for Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, IL; retail strategy and comprehensive storefront guidelines for the Historic Central Business District of Ardmore, PA; design and wayfinding concepts for Carmel City Center and the Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel, IN; and architecture, interiors, retail store and restaurant design for the Delmar Loop Redevelopment District in St. Louis, MO.
David has a Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis. He has taught in the Architecture Discovery Program at Washington University, and lectured in architectural studies at SIU Carbondale. He has been a recent speaker at the Healthcare Facilities Symposium and Expo and the AIA National Convention.
