Nick Barto joined Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) in June 2012 and serves as the Senior Vice President, Corporate Finance & Investments and CFO, Enterprise Business Lines. In this role, he oversees all of CHI’s treasury functions, investor relations, corporate finance, financial and capital planning, payer strategy operations, CHI’s senior living division, clinical engineering, real estate, physical asset services/construction and the organization’s direct investment fund. In addition, Nick oversees CHI’s operational finance, including financial systems and business intelligence. CHI’s investment team manages over $15 billion across several entities. At CHI Nick also develops and maintains key relationships with private equity and venture capital firms as well as related strategic approaches to growth and partnerships. Mr. Barto has worked for 20 years as an executive, adviser and investor covering all aspects of the health care industry – payer, provider and med/biotech.
Mr. Barto previously worked with Novant Health, a $4.0 billion integrated health care system which included 13 acute-care hospitals, a 1,200-member physician group and more than 130 ambulatory sites. He served as a key member of a senior leadership team that doubled the size of the health system through acquisitions and a wide range of business opportunities, restructurings and partnerships.
Before joining Novant Health, Mr. Barto was with the Charlotte-based merger-and-acquisition firm McColl Partners. Prior to that, he worked for Lehman Brothers in both New York and London, and has also served as an advisor, researcher and consultant to health care clients across the global health care industry. He is a graduate of Princeton University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics, and holds a master’s degree in business administration from the Columbia Business School in New York.
